Business case:
Since a number of years Sovitec’s profitability had been declining as a result of rising energy costs and pricing pressure originating from increased levels of imports. Despite still solid operational results the company came under financial distress as a result of its levered financing structure. VEP acquired not only the equity but also the LBO debt from an international banking consortium and with the removal of the conflict of interest in the capital structure and a simplified corporate and financing structure the company could again focus on expanding its European leadership position in this niche industry. The future perspectives of the company are further enhanced by its improved cost structure, an increased demand for local supplies and a renewed focus on growth in high-end segments.
